Andalusian Horse History

The Andalusian horse is a historic breed that is a foundational breed that has influenced numerous other breeds such as the Lippizan, Cleveland Bay, Quarter Horse, Peruvian Paso and Connemara. The original Andalusion horses are believed to have been a result of breeding between the Iberian horses in Spain with the native horses on the peninsula. Having come from the area of Andalusia they were in turn called the Andalusion horse.

The Andalusion breed has historically been recognized as an outstanding warhorse. They are known for being compact, strong, and agile, with an average height of around 16.1 hands. Many armies took advantage of the great speed and agility of the Andalusian horse and in turn many European royals took a fancy to the breed as well. This historic breed is viewed as a "Pure Spanish Horse" and have found themselves being used all over the world for varying types of disciplines.

The striking appearance of an Andalusion is hard to miss. With bountiful manes and tails and a strong forward moving gait, they command the attention of all those around them. Andalusions can be found in a variety of colors but are primarily seen as gray, bay, or black though there are several other colorations that can be found.
